Units 1 & 2: Post-Classical Era
c. 1200-1450
After the fall of Classical Civilizations, new people, cultures, states, and religions emerged during the period 600-1450 CE. Near the end of the Post-Classical period (where we begin), the Mongols will reshape much of Asia, and Islam has radically altered Christian dominance in the Mediterranean. As cultures increasingly interact during this time, both pathogens and knowledge will transfer between them. New technologies will further trade, exploration, and scientific understanding of the world, and plague will devastate Eurasia. Perhaps the greatest long-term legacy of this period is the invention and spread of gunpowder, which will hereafter permanently transform human conflict.
