Units 3 & 4: Early Modern Era
1450-1750
An era of discovery and massive cultural change, this Early Modern Era witnesses the hegemony of Europe in the New World and the shift of knowledge from the East to the West as cultural and economic systems are connected through the first truly global interactions. New systems of coerced labor will play an ever-growing role in economic and social structures, while the diffusion of new crops and diseases will shift global demographics. Gunpowder becomes the constant in consolidating power and will serve to escalate new religious conflicts within Christianity and Islam. The philosophical and scientific innovations of this period will have lasting impact on religion, governance, economics, and social structures, instigating the revolutionary fever that will soon follow.
